Entry Level POlice officer

Starting base pay of $78,182 / year PLUS incentives

The City of Gresham Police Department is accepting applications for Entry Level Police Officer positions.

We are a full-service police department with a variety of opportunities for an individual to build an extensive skill set and a fulfilling career in law enforcement. The Gresham Police Department consists of 132 sworn positions. All employees are expected to strive for excellence as they provide services to customers and community members in a positive and respectful manner; while demonstrating a creative and visionary thought process, and insightful problem-solving skills.

Lateral POlice officer

Earn up to $99,821 / year PLUS incentives

The City of Gresham is accepting applications for Lateral Police Officers! The Police Department is seeking Lateral Police Officers of sound moral character. The Police Officers are expected to be self-disciplined and highly motivated, while demonstrating honesty and integrity in representing the core values of the community. Successful candidates will reinforce the department's efforts to achieve goals and objectives in providing public safety to the community and its citizens.

Lateral Pay Steps

Incentives:

Employees who are assigned in writing to serve in a specialty assignment(s) will be compensated as listed below, subject to the maximum cap (14%) in Section 18.7 while serving in this capacity:

Specialty Assignment Pay Rates:

  1. Field Training Officer (FTO) Pay

    1. 14% over regular base pay (temporary, does not count toward any cap).

  2. K-9 Officer Pay

    1. 10% of regular base pay for time spent on K-9 program maintenance.

  3. Motorcycle Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay.

  4. S.W.A.T. Tactical Team Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay.

  5. S.W.A.T. Safety Officer Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay.

  6. Bomb Technician Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay.

  7. Hazardous Materials Response Team Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay.

  8. Crisis Negotiator Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay.

  9. Detective Pay

    1. 6% over regular base pay for long-term assignments. 4% over regular base pay for career development assignments.

  10. Instructor Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay while actively performing instructor duties.Prep time does not qualify for instructor pay.

  11. Translator Pay

    1. 5% over regular base pay for specific listed languages.

  12. Comfort K-9 Program Handler Pay

    1. 2% over regular base pay.

  13. Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Pay

    1. 3% over regular base pay.

  14. School Resource Officer (SRO) Pay

    1. 2% over regular base pay.

  15. Services Coordination Team (SCT) Pay

    1. 2% over regular base pay.

  16. Vehicle Crime Team (VCT) Pay

    1. 3% over regular base pay.

  17. Public Information Officer (PIO) Pay

    1. 2% over regular base pay.

  18. Neighborhood Enforcement Team (NET) Pay

    1. 2% over regular base pay.

  19. Rapid Response Team (RRT) Pay

    1. 2% over regular base pay.

Additional Incentives:

  1. DPSST Certificate Incentive

    1. Intermediate DPSST Certificate: 6%

    2. Advanced DPSST Certificate: 5%

    3. Total DPSST incentive: 11%

  2. Educational Incentive

    1. Bachelor’s Degree: 2%

  3. Longevity Incentive

    1. 2% at 85 months of service.

    2. Additional 1% at 169 months of service.

    3. Laterals receive credit for prior service at other agencies.

  4. Mental Health Incentive

    1. 1%

  5. Shift Differential

    1. 3%

Qualifications

In order to become a Gresham police officer, you must meet the following qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and at least 21 years old.

  • No felony criminal record or crime involving domestic violence.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Good driving record, or the ability to obtain a valid driver's license by date of hire.

  • Ability to pass pre-assessment suitability screening.

  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation.

  • Ability to pass a psychological, medical and drug screen exam.

  • Ability to complete the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Police Academy.

  • Bilingual skills are highly desirable.
